Scientists/Engineers from CES&HS undergone training on HAWOS
In a significant stride towards enhancing safety and precision in aviation, a comprehensive three-day training programme on installation, calibration, and maintenance of the heliport aviation weather observing system (HAWOS) was conducted at the IMD, Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati here in Assam from 20-22 December. Engineers and Scientists from Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies were trained on the theoretical foundation of HAWOS, working principles of equipment and hands-on training using GIS tools to generate precipitation and weather forecasting maps etc..
The observation systems that installing at Namsai, Seppa, Bomdila, Daporijo, Tawang etc convert text weather data to voice and communicates to airborne pilots up to 50 to 100 km range for deciding to land at a particular heliport / airport in every 15 minutes interval. The completion of this training program marks a crucial step towards fostering safer aviation practices, addressing historical challenges of inadequate meteorological information during crucial landings and take offs.
